Understanding the Fundamentals of Human Trafficking
About
Human trafficking is often happening all around us and yet is often misunderstood or mischaracterized. This workshop explores the fundamental elements important to understand in conceptualizing this horrific crime. Often operating on a spectrum of violence and perpetuated out of survival, dynamics that create the problem and those that perpetuate it will be considered. Support and interventions to assist survivors will also be discussed.
Presenter
Jessica Brazeal is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor, EMDR Certified and an EMDR Approved Consultant and Trainer. She serves as Chief Programs Officer at New Friends New Life. Previously, Jessica served as the Director of Clinical & Professional Services at Genesis Women’s Shelter and Coordinator of Clinical Services of Restoration Ministries at Highland Park United Methodist Church. She's provided therapeutic services to women and children survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and sexual exploitation for over 15 years. Jessica has provided expert testimony in both criminal and civil courts in Texas in addition to previously serving on the faculty of the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault’s Expert Witness Training Program. Jessica received a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.
